Services for Students with Special Educational Needs

In 1981, the Welfare Council launched the "Integrated Programme in kindgergarten-cum-Childcare Centre" to provide special education needs services for children. The Council now serves 48 children with special education needs at 6 nursery schools with the aim of helping these children find their own paths at mainstream schools.

With the unique needs of pre-school, primary and secondary school-aged children with special education needs, the Council has been actively exploring pertinent, yet diverse services. These include organising "Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Walk with Love", the "Onsite Pre-school Rehabilitation Service Project" in kindergartens in 2015, which was funded by the Social Welfare Department; and the transformation of the “Love to Learn Enhancement Centre" into the "We Love: Jockey Club Centre for Family Enhancement (We Love Centre), made possible by the sponsorship of Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities trust. We Love Centre has launched a 3-year project for children with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, and their parents. In 2015, the Education Bureau also subsidised the Council to operate a 3-year project that provides career counselling for dyslexic youth.
