【Continued Support for Wang Fuk Court Residents】Fund Distribution and Holistic Care
Following the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council immediately mobilised comprehensive support. As our relief efforts transition from the emergency phase to medium- and long-term recovery, we are consolidating resources to care for the holistic well-being of the affected residents.   The ‘S.K.H. Act of Love 1126 Fire Disaster Support Fund’ distributed the first round of emergency cash following the incident, and the second round of assistance, along with funeral subsidies, has been progressively disbursed to families in need.    Meanwhile, acting as the implementing agency for donations from the China Social Welfare Foundation and the China Social Assistance Foundation, we are providing additional financial aid to owners, tenants, and affected families through the government's ‘one social worker per household’ initiative.   Beyond financial aid, the Welfare Council is fully implementing medium-to-long-term support initiatives, including bereavement support, Chinese medicine treatments, psychiatric consultations, and play and sandplay therapy, to support the physical and mental health of residents. Fully aware of the importance of neighbourly support, we have organised a series of community care activities at ‘Runway 1331’ and ‘United Court’. These gatherings allow residents to support one another along the path to recovery.   Recovery takes time. The Welfare Council remains committed to walking alongside residents, ensuring that every donation makes the greatest possible impact.    We sincerely thank the community for your continued trust and support.

With the generous support of S.K.H. churches, schools and social service units, supporting organisations and members of the public, the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council held the Charity Raffle 2019, which raised some HK$4 million in 7 weeks.   Some members of the advisory board, sponsors, representatives from S.K.H. churches and service users attended the 29th November lucky draw of Charity Raffle event, which was held at the H.K.S.K.H. During the event, the Council thanked sponsors, retailer the elderly volunteers for their contributions and presented awards to recognise their dedicated efforts.   Funds Go to Support the Council’s Services The Revd Richard Tsang, Diocesan General Secretary, Eastern Kowloon, led the prayer ahead of the event. Dr Jane Lee, JP, Director of the Welfare Council, said the Charity Raffle event aimed to encourage public donations so as to create and execute more innovative services and programmes, and provide sustainable support and resources for various community services and groups. In the past 4 years, proceeds raised by the Charity Raffle event went to subsidise a number of services including the S.K.H. Stroke Rehabilitation Charity Fund, special educational needs services and S.K.H. Primary School Counselling Service. The S.K.H. Stroke Rehabilitation Charity Fund has already supported 77 stroke patients to undergo rehabilitative treatment. Out of these patients, 80% of them could reintegrate into the community and 90% of them reported improved mobility after rehabilitation services. Dr Lee was also grateful to over 260 S.K.H. churches, school and social service units as well as more than 30 retailers. Without their unfailing support, the Council would not be possible to raise nearly HK$4 million in a gloomy year for Hong Kong.   Thanks for the Support from All Sectors 43 winning numbers were drawn under the witness of the lucky draw included prize sponsors and the first-prize sponsor for the second consecutive year—Vang Iek Motors (Hong Kong).   In addition to selling raffle tickets, the Welfare Council also explored other ways to raise funds. Moreover, we thanked the elderly members and volunteers of the H.K.S.K.H. St Matthew's Neighbourhood Elderly Centre for making exclusive plush toys as charity sales souvenirs.   Last but not least, the Welfare Council presented S.K.H. churches and schools that raised the most funds, and achieved the greatest increase in funds from the previous year with tokens of gratitude. The Welfare Council launches the Pilot Scheme on Multi-disciplinary Outreaching Support Teams for the Elderly
With its rich experience and broad network, the Welfare Council successfully applied for the Social Welfare Department’s “Pilot Scheme on Multi-disciplinary Outreaching Support Teams for the Elderly”. It was assigned to provide free social and rehabilitation services at more than 170 private, contracted and self-financing residential care homes for the elderly in Kowloon Central (Kowloon City and Yau-Tsim-Mong district), as well as Kowloon East (Kwun Tong, Wong Tai Sin and Sai Kung District). Launching on 15th February, 2019, the scheme delivered community-focused services through a professional team of social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists.
